JEROME, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) – Jerome County commissioners met today to discuss the possibility of ICE renting beds in the Jerome County jail.
The Jerome County Sheriffs Office has been working out the details of a bed rental contract with ICE, a contract the county commissioners have yet to see.
A crowd of people filled the commissioners office for the meeting this morning.
According to the sheriff’s office, ICE would rent a minimum of 50 beds in the county detention center for 75 dollars a bed. The cost per bed would be paid whether they are filled or not, which is causing concern for Jerome residents.
